James Edwin ‘Jimmy’ Mattingly, 76, New Hope
James Edwin “Jimmy” Mattingly, 76, of New Hope, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born Sept. 14, 1936, in New Hope. He worked 43 years at Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, was an auto racing enthusiast and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phillis Devine Mattingly; his parents, George Rodney and Mary Ruby Hagan Mattingly; an infant son, James Edwin Mattingly, Jr.; two sisters, Nancy Donnelly and Margie Ryan.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Inez Donahue Mattingly; one daughter, Sheila Stein and her husband Walter, both of New York; one son, Joe Mattingly and his wife Pam, both of New Hope; four stepsons, Tommy Donahue of Bardstown, Jeff Donahue and his wife Kelley, both of Somerset, Eddie Donahue and his wife Jodey, both of Shepherdsville, Kenny Donahue and his wife Veronica, both of Chaplin; four stepdaughters, Sherri Matherly and her husband Brian, both of Elizabethtown, Jan St. Clair of Bardstown, Laura Evans and her husband Dennis, both of Hodgenville, Pam Wolf and her husband Mike, both of New Haven; one sister, Rita Butler and her husband Sam, both of Marysville, Ind.; seven brothers, Marcy Mattingly, Tommy Mattingly and his wife Sheila, and Danny Mattingly (Darnell) all of Loretto, David Mattingly of New Haven, Frank Mattingly and his wife Martha, both of Bardstown, Leon Mattingly and his wife Judy, both of of Mount Washington and Bobby Mattingly of Holy Cross; five grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, New Hope, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Eddie Hutchins.
