Injured man airlifted from scene of one-car crash on BG Parkway

Wednesday, March 16, 2011, 1:50 p.m. — One person was injured Wednesday afternoon when his car left the Blue Grass Parkway, traveled down an embankment and into a creek. The accident happened about 12:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the BG Parkway about the 11 mile marker near the Bellwood Road overpass.

The 33-year-old man was airlifted from the scene and flown to University of Louisville Hospital with an open fracture of his left thigh bone and lacerations in his groin area. The Bardstown Fire Department responded to assist Nelson County EMS with the recovery of the victim from the creek and to setup a landing zone for the medical helicopter. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.
