Healthcare was focus of March meeting of federal retirees group
March 9, 2011 — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1050 met on March 7 at NOLIN RECC for their monthly meeting. Carol Baldwin from the Health Care Access Branch of the Department of Public Health at Lincoln Trail ADD presented information about the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program. She revealed that residents across the nation who do not have prescription medication insurance may be eligible for 4800 different medications from 360 drug companies at discounted charges or free of charge. Those needing discounted and/or free medication assistance may contact Carol Baldwin at 270-401-3842 or 270-769-8609 for information on how to apply. The drug companies will evaluate the need and respond as appropriate.
During the meeting, Chapter president Kay Bennett allowed discussion on a variety of issues. NARFE Chapter 1050 has 383 voting members with an average of 50 attending the monthly meetings. Membership is $46 per year and can be purchased in a multi year option or with dues withholding for a discount.
Legislative chair Willie Little reminded the membership that since our National government is trying to lower the national deficit in several areas, they are including the option to reduce federal workers’ retirement and health benefits among budget cuts. He encouraged the members to contact their congressmen and representatives to block the cuts which federal workers have earned.
