Former council candidate arrested – briefly – over 2007 violation

Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, 10 p.m. – A candidate for Bardstown City Council in Tuesday’s election was arrested on a contempt of court charge late Thursday evening in connection with a traffic violation dating back to 2007.
Lee Carlton Champney, 63, was arrested about 11 p.m. Thursday night. According to the Nelson County Jail booking information, Champney was released about 20 minutes later after fines and courts were paid.
Champney came in last in the 14-candidate race for city council with 313 votes, or 1.84 percent of the votes cast.
