Bardstown firefighters called for smoke, haze at local nursing home
Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, 11:55 a.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department was called to Colonial Health & Rehab, 708 W. Bartley Ave., for a report of light smoke and haze in the front part of the building. Firefighters were called to respond just after 11 p.m. Friday night. Nursing home personnel evacuated residents away from the involved areas of the building. An EMS ambulance was dispatched to the nursing home for standby if needed to assist with evacuations or medical problems. Firefighters checked the roof and the attic of the building and determined the problem was a malfunctioning heating unit. Once the unit was turned off, the haze and smell cleared. Firefighters were on scene for about 90 minutes.
