Joyce Dean Brown Barnes, 68, Bardstown

Joyce Dean Brown Barnes, 68, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was born Aug. 16, 1944, in Samuels. She worked in the secretarial field and was retired. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Barnes; her parents, Sudie and Joe Brown; two brothers, Jodie Brown and Eddie Brown; and one sister, Pamela Courtney.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicky Hukic’ and her husband Denis, both of Bardstown and Lisa Short and her husband Mike, both of Smyrna, Tenn.; four sisters, Freda Greenwell and her husband Bill, both of Bardstown, Joan Maraman of Shepherdsville, Gail Gunter and her husband Bob, both of Louisville, and Donna Marie Martinez of Texas; one son, Chuck Brown and his wife Ruth, both of Elizabethtown; one aunt, Gussie Vittitow and Beverly; four grandchildren, Amy (Will Shelton) Richardson and Letitia (Mark) Curtsinger both of Bardstown, Kayla (Justin Taylor) Short and Kyle (Caitlyn) Short, all of Smyrna, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Logan Shelton, Grant Curtsinger, Violet Curtsinger and Kyleigh Short; and her Yorkie, Subin.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial in Riverview Cemetery in New Haven. The Rev. Ben Brown will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, and 10 a.m. – noon Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions may go to University Hospital Lung Center in Vanderbilt, Tenn., or to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
