MARY LOUISE BOWLING

Mary Louise Bowling, 88, of Louisville, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at St Joseph Home for the Aged, in Louisville. She was born on April 28, 1924, in New Haven to James Nicholas Bowling and Mary Irene Boone. Her life was dedicated to the care of the elderly. She cared for her father, Nick, until his death in 1965. She soon joined the Little Sisters of the Poor and served in several homes in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, returning to Louisville when the St. Joseph Home opened in 1991. At the St. Joseph Home she oversaw the activities in their Craft Room and took great pride in the rose garden. When she retired in 2008, she enjoyed the Kentucky Derby, bingo, day trips to the casinos and church picnics. She enjoyed watching all types of sports. Best of all, she loved her card playing group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, the Rev. George K. Bowling, Martin Bowling, William Paul Bowling, and the Rev. Robert A Bowling; two sisters, Sr. Mary Janette OSU and Marietta Blandford; and one sister-in-law, Anna Rose Bowling.

She loved the Little Sisters, their caring staff, their loyal volunteers and all the residents. She loved the Christian atmosphere and family environment the home provided. The Bowling family would like to express their appreciation to the Little Sisters for their loving care, given not only to Mary Louise, but to all who enter their home for truly “Love is Spoken Here”.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Bowling and Rosanne Bowling; 20 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Place, Louisville.
