Driver flees after pickup crashes on Monks Road near the Abbey

Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, 1 p.m. — Police and EMS responded to a single-vehicle crash on Monks Road south of the Abbey of Gethsemani at 5:40 Sunday morning. A black 2001 Ford 4-wheel drive left the roadway, ran into a ditch and struck a large tree. When EMS and police arrived, the driver of the vehicle had fled the accident scene. Police asked dispatchers to contact area hospitals and ask them to alert them if the registered owner seeks treatment for injuries from the crash. Police shut down Monks Road for a short time while the vehicle was recovered by a towing company.
