Joseph Arthur “Art” Thompson,  86, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Colonial Health and Rehab. He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Holy Cross. He was a former employee of Western Electric, an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of St. Joseph Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Catherine Cotton Thompson; two sisters, Margaret Mary Thompson SCN and Anita Snyder; and one brother, John “Cotton” Thompson.

Survivors include his wife Louise C. Thompson of Bardstown; two stepsons, Joseph D. Rapier Jr., of Panama City, Fla., and Mark Rapier and his wife Brenda, both of Bardstown; five stepdaughters, Fran Hardin and her husband Bill, both of Springfield, Rita Valiant and her husband Ed, both of Pittsburgh, Charlotte Price and her husband Pat, both of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Linda Sims and her husband Millard, and Madeline Downs and her husband Wayne, all of Bardstown; one niece; one nephew; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Joseph-Proto Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Burial is in the Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
