George Norman Smith Jr., 82, Bardstown
George Norman Smith Jr., 82, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Louisville. He worked in the local family business at Norman’s Shoe Shop and retired from Owens Illinois in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was a past member of Bardstown Fire Department and member of Bardstown Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Hazel Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Mattingly Smith of Bardstown; three daughters, Sharon Christian and her husband Brett, both of Augusta, Ga., Lisa Blanford and her husband Perry, and Kathy Waff and her husband Hunter, all of Bardstown; two sons, Michael Smith and his wife Pat, and David Smith and his wife Lisa, all of Bardstown; six grandchildren, Lauren Anderson, Brittany Christian, Whitney Blanford, Chase Blanford, Kaylie Smith, and Kaden Smith; two stepgrandchildren, Christy Hall, and Sarah Newton; and one great-grandchild, Miles Waid.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery. The Rev. Dylan Mays will officiate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may go to Hospice of nelson County or Bardstown Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall.
