Updated: NCHS senior arrested, charged after pulling knife on fellow student
Thursday, May 9, 2013, 7:45 p.m. (Updated Friday, May 10, 2013, 11 a.m.) — A Nelson County High School senior was charged Thursday with wanton endangerment and menacing after he pulled a knife on another student after an incident in a senior English class.
Aaron Michael Gamper, 18, was charged and booked into the Nelson County Jail at 2:01 p.m., jail records show. He was released from jail at 6:50 a.m. Friday.
The school alerted parents about the incident by e-mail just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday. According to the e-mail, an incident in the senior English class sparked a verbal confrontation between two students. One of the students pulled a knife and verbally threatened the other student. The knife-wielding student was restrained, removed from the classroom and taken into custody by the school’s resource officer. The e-mail did not identify either student involved in the incident.
The school e-mail noted that the knife was a pocket knife and was too small to be considered a deadly weapon, but is considered a dangerous instrument.
Administrator at the high school and the school resource officer investigated the incident.
