Letter: Group working to support indoor pool and put ‘Our Community First’
To to the Editor:
People in every community must make decisions on what is right for their local situation. Nelson County is a great place to live, work and play, but even the best places can improve and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The perennial issues facing our residents are an Indoor Pool and a YMCA-style complex. Although one can debate the true intentions and goals of the recent money allocated for a study, a few election cycles ago these ideas were pushed down by many local leaders. These issues should not be political in nature, thus why a growing number of residents are asking for private action.
Local communities all over Kentucky and the United States have these facilities — one just down the road in Lebanon. These facilities give better access to our children, students, seniors and the disabled needing alternatives for good health, not to mention for the use by families and every day residents. Such complexes attract tourists, show businesses a higher quality of life thus attracting them at higher percentages, and expand opportunities for every person in the community. While some will be negative and want the status quo, more residents want these enhancements to our community.
A group of people recently met to start fundraising for these causes. We are named Our Community First. We are looking for volunteers, donations and ideas on how to make these wants into a reality for all of Nelson County.
Instead of letting the issue come up every 2 to 4 years with elections, the time is here to act. Thank you for the strong support of the American Legion Post 121 to mobilize this cause of residents.
