Verna Lucille Mouser, 81, New Haven
Verna Lucille Mouser, 81, of New Haven, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville. She was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven where she often sang in the choir. She was born in Laurel County on Jan. 14, 1932, to the late Hansford and Lucy Marcum Bruner. She was a 1950 graduate of London High School in London and moved to Louisville to further her education at Stratton Business College. From there she took a position in accounting with Vogt Brothers Manufacturing.
She served two consecutive terms as a member of the New Haven city council. She was instrumental in founding the New Haven Senior Citizens Center, and served as their supervisor and coordinator of activities for 14 years. She served on the Bethlehem High School Board for several years and was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hansford and Lucy Marcum Bruner; her stepmother, Hettie Bruner; four brothers, Harold Bruner, Donnie Wilson Bruner, Wallace Lane Bruner, and Carl Wayne Bruner; two sisters, Margie Brown and Jacqueline Bruner; and three infant children, Terry Arthur, Mary Martha, and Sherry Martha Mouser.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John A. Mouser of New Haven; three daughters, Theresa (Mark) Owens of Paducah, Doris (Doug) Shirley of New Braunfels, Texas, and Libby (David) Greenwell of Cox’s Creek; four sons, John A. (Carol) Mouser Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga., Fred (Connie) Mouser of New Haven, Phillip (Cindy) Mouser of Bardstown, and Jerry (Amy) Mouser of New Haven; one sister, Jean Boggs of Londan; and one brother, John Lee Bruner of London; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Troy Overton will officiate.
Visitation is 2–8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, and 9-10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown.
