Marion Houston ‘M.H.’ Proffitt, 71, formerly of Bardstown
Marion Houston “M.H.” Proffitt, 71, formerly of Bardstown, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at his home in Oakland. He was the retired owner/operator of the former M.H. Proffitt Funeral Home in Bardstown and a member of the Funeral Directors of Kentucky Association. He was an airplane, automobile and motorcycle enthusiast, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and held a world record with the National Aeronautics Association. He worshiped with the Lehman Avenue Church of Christ and held a concerted interest in Christian Missionary work especially in Bulgaria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erby H. and Lydia Bishop Proffitt.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Delores Rucker; one daughter, Lisa Grimes (Scott) of Bowling Green; one son, Ty Houston Proffitt of Manchester, Tenn.; one sister, Martha Morris (Forrest) of Bloomfield; two aunts, Elizabeth Proffitt of Cave City and Elizabeth Bishop of Nazareth; and four grandchildren, Tara and Ty Buttrey, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Hayden Houston and Elizabeth Proffitt of Manchester, Tenn.
Visitation in Bowling Green is 10 a.m. CST Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Cone Funeral Home in Bowling Green with the funeral to follow at 8 p.m. CST.
Visitation in Bardstown is 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown with a prayer service at 3 p.m. with Tom Hall. Burial will follow in the Bardstown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Big Reedy Christian Camp, Bowling Green.
Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
