Alleged bicycle thief arrested by Bardstown PD on outstanding warrants
Thursday, May 23, 2013, 2:40 p.m. — Bardstown Police today arrested Dylan S. Mingus, 23, of Bardstown, in the investigation of stolen bicycles that he allegedly attempted to pawn at a local pawn shop.
Acting on a tip, Mingus was arrested on two outstanding warrants; one for shoplifting and the other for theft of gasoline. Mingus was arrested wearing the same shirt he was seen wearing in the pawn shop security video during his attempt to sell stolen bicycles.
Mingus admitted he had stolen the bicycle and had attempted to sell it at Easy Money Pawn. Police are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for the theft of the bicycle. He was arrested on the outstanding warrants and was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
On Monday, May 20, Bardstown Police began circulating via social media a still photo from the security video of a man attempting to sell bicycles at the Easy Money Pawn shop. The pawn shop declined to buy the bikes, and they were left at the side of the business.
One of the stolen bicycles belonged to an 8-year-old cancer survivor who received the bike as a gift. The bike was returned to its owner.
The investigation is continuing. Bardstown Police request anyone with information regarding this incident please contact them at 348-6811.
