OFFICER JASON ELLIS

Sunday, May 26, 2013, 11:30 a.m. — Nelson County Coroner Field Houghlin reported the Bardstown Police officer officer shot and killed early Saturday morning was shot multiple times with a 12-gauge shotgun.

According to WDRB in Louisville, Houghlin believed it looked like Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis was ambushed.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Norman Chafins told the station Ellis’ death “wasn’t a traffic crash, it wasn’t a suicide or anything like that, it was homicide.”

Ellis’ police cruiser was parked on the exit ramp with the blue lights on. He was found on the ground outside his car, shot multiple times. Shell casings from a 12-gauge shotgun were found at the scene. Ellis’ weapon was still in its holster.

The Kentucky State Police are continuing the investigation. WAVE TV’s Kevin Harned has reported via social media KSP will hold a press conference at 2:30 Sunday with important information about the case.
