Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles said the city will contribute $10,000 to the reward fund in an effort to bring those responsible for the murder of Officer Jason Ellis to justice.

Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 5:10 p.m. — On behalf of the City of Bardstown, Mayor Bill Sheckles said the city will donate $10,000 to the reward fund that will pay for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Officer Jason Ellis.

At at 5 p.m. Tuesday press conference at the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Sheckles expressed his gratitude for “the tremendous outreach and support from across the country. We appreciate the support we have received.”

The reward fund has grown to more than $22,000. The additional $10,000 the city will contribute will come from the asset forfeiture fund created by the seizure of cash and property in criminal investigations.

Officer Ellis’ drug dog Figo will be retired, Sheckles said. The trained K-9 will retire with Ellis’ family with whom he lived. “The young boys grew up with the dog, and he’s one of the family,” he said.

Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin confirmed there are no new leads yet in the investigation.

The press conference was broadcast live by WBRT 1320 AM, 97.1 FM and streamed live online.
