Pair charged with attempted murder after incident in New Haven

Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 11 p.m. — Two people were arrested Monday afternoon and charged with attempting to murder a New Haven area man by hitting him with their car.
William Joseph Martin, 28, and Ashley S. Bowman, 30, were arrested Monday and charged in the incident. Witnesses said the pair were trying to run over a New Haven man at the old Magoo’s building.
Police were called about 3:15 p.m. Monday to a report of a silver Kia occupied by a couple who were trying to run over a male subject. Witnesses told police the description of the car, and an officer located it at a New Haven minit mart. The officer held Martin and Bowman on the ground until a second officer arrived.
The man who was the alleged target of the pair was not injured in the incident.
William Joseph Martin, who was driving the car, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc., possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle.
Ashley S. Bowman was charged with attempted murder and facilitation to murder, which means she was an accessory to the attempt. She was also charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
The pair were lodged in the Nelson County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
