TROOPER NORMAN CHAFFINS KSP POST 4 PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER

STAFF REPORT

Tuesday, June 4, 2013 — Kentucky State Police are seeking the public’s help with the ongoing investigation into Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis’ murder.

Police are asking residents in Nelson or surrounding counties who may have had their trees trimmed, or observed someone trimming or removing trees around the time of Officer Ellis’ death to contact them.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Norman Chaffins, KSP Post 4 public information officer, revealed the debris in the roadway that prompted Officer Ellis to stop and exit his cruiser were tree limbs. Investigators say the tree limbs don’t appear to be indigenous to the immediate area.

Individuals who had tree trimming done, or saw tree trimming done are asked to contact KSP Post 4 at (270) 766-5078; send an email to norman.chaffins@ky.gov, or visit www.kentuckystatepolice.org and follow the links to our Text-A-Tip line.

KSP Troopers and detectives are working around the clock following up on leads and tips, Chaffins said.

“We will not waver and we will be relentless in our pursuit of Officer Jason Ellis’ killer.”
