Marvin Sylvester Saunders, 74, New Hope
Marvin Sylvester Saunders, 74, of New Hope, died from an accident at his residence on Friday, June 7, 2013.
He was raised in Potosi, Mo., by his late parents, Ralph and Mary Helen Saunders. He was a Catholic by faith. He retired from Jim Beam, played guitar in the band “Kentucky Rebels”, and he was an avid horseman and fisherman.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Billy Martin; three sisters, Audrey, Veronica and Mary Alice; and one brother, Carl Saunders.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela (Todd) Davis of Hillview and Charlene (Bobby) McDougal of Bardstown; four sons, Richard Sunders of Moore, Okla., Dean Sunders of Bardstown, Mark (Tonya) Saunders of Glasgow, Scott (Angie) Saunders and James (Jacqueline) Clan, all of New Hope
three sisters, Laverne (Jack) Miller, Joyce (Irvin) Goodson and Cecilia (Wesley) Slatton; three brothers, George (Sheila) Saunders, Paul (Martha) Saunders, and Larry (Vicky) Saunders, all of Potosi, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Arletha Miles.
A Mass of Christian Burial is noon Monday, June 10, 2013, at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in New Hope, with the Rev. Ken Fortener officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, and 9-11:30 a.m. Monday with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
