James Hubert Roberts, 90, Bardstown
James Hubert Roberts, 90, of Bardstown, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living. He was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Nelson County, was a World War II Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific. He retired from the State Highway Department after 37 years of service during which time he worked as a mechanic, a garage foreman and an equipment supervisor. He was a member of the VFW, a lifetime member of the Elizabethtown American Legion, the Knights of Columbus post 1290, a member of St. Joseph Parish where he was active on the Bereavement Committee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Thelma W. Roberts; his parents, Ora and Agnes Hutchins Roberts; one sister, Gladys Ball; and three brothers, J.C. Roberts, George Roberts and Leroy Roberts.
He is survived by three brothers, Charles Roberts, George M. (Chester Mae) Roberts, both of Bardstown and William Harry “Bill” Roberts of Peoria, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will be celebrant.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, and 8:30-11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with prayers at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
