Joseph W. ‘Mac’ McConnell, 86, formerly of Springfield

Joseph W. “Mac” McConnell, 86, of Louisville, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home.

wwIIveteranlogoHe was born in Springfield and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margaret McConnell; his parents, Corinne McConnell-Simms and Joseph D. McConnell; one brother, Tom McConnell; and one sister Mary Julia Hayden. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. after 34 years of service, having worked at the Kentucky Truck Plant, Louisville Auto Plant and Western Parkway. Mac was very proud of his service to his country, serving during World War II in the Marines, mainly in the Pacific. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Corrine Ruffra (Mike); four sons, Lonnie McConnell (Linda), Terry McConnell (Vickie), Doug McConnell (Barbara) and Tony McConnell; two sisters, Barbara Simms and Margaret Cecil; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and adopted family Helen Halk (George) and children.

The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at St. Rita Church, 8719 Preston Highway in Louisville. Burial is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose Cemetery in Springfield.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road.
