John Paul ‘The Pope’ Miles, 83, Louisville

John Paul “The Pope” Miles, 83, of Louisville, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at home surrounded by family. He was a native of Calvary, the eighth of 12 children of the late John Richard and Susan Beavin Miles. He was a retired boiler operator for Rohm & Haas, and was the owner of Bennett-Miles Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Spalding Council, a member of the American Legion Shawnee Post 193 and a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Abell Miles; two daughters, Cathy Doan (Jerry), and Joan Miles Strickland; one son, Joseph Miles; three sisters, Margaret Mary Davidson (Henry), Barbara Ann Potts and Mickey Schawe; one brother, James Beavin Miles (Marjorie); and two grandchildren, Christopher Strickland (Angel) and Matthew Strickland.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 7500 Tangelo Drive, with burial to follow in the Lebanon National Cemetery in Lebanon.

Visitation is 2–8 p.m. Monday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
