Thursday, June 20, 2013, 9:30 a.m. — Nelson County resident Harold Sneed was named the 2nd Congressional District’s “2013 Volunteer of the Year.”
Sneed was one of six Kentuckians honored at the state Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day dinner in Lexington Saturday, June 15, 2013.
“I am very humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” Sneed said following the event.
In addition to his volunteer work for numerous political causes, Sneed volunteered for the Marine Corp in 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1969-70. He has been active in the Marine Corps League in Louisville, Toys for Tots, the Honor Detail, St. Jude Children’s WAMZ radiothon, and has served on the Nelson County Board of Elections.
“We have the most amazing group of people in Nelson County, Robert Augustine, chairman of the Republican Party of Nelson County said. “Everyone is vitally important, and several are worthy of recognition, but Harold has set the bar extremely high.
“Harold and his wife Debbie have positively touched the lives many people, not just during the past year, but for decades. His work as a political activist is impressive enough, but his selfless volunteer efforts outside the political arena are extraordinary.”
Each county was invited to nominate one volunteer. Nelson County’s nomination process included opening nomination up to members, then having membership vote for the nominees. Each congressional district then selected one volunteer from its pool of counties as its own “Volunteer of the Year.”
Twenty-one counties make up Kentucky’s 2nd congressional district.
