Mary Virginia ‘Sis’ Royalty, 92, Bardstown
Mary Virginia “Sis” Royalty, 92, of Bardstown, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Flaget Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Nelson County. She was retired from Barton’s Distillery, and a homemaker. She loved dancing, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Barton’s Retirement Group and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley “J.W.” Royalty; parents, Mary Hudie Downs and Raymond Downs; two sisters, Agnes Raisor, Opal Humphrey; and one brother, Everett Downs.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo Stone of Cox’s Creek and Theresa (Martin) Barnes of Bardstown; four sons, C.R. (Joyce) Royalty, Andy (Mary) Royalty, and J.R. Royalty, all of Bardstown, and Joseph Ed (Sue) Royalty of Shepherdsville; one brother, Jack Downs of Bardstown; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will officiate.
Visitation is 2–8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, and 9–10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 8 p.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions may go to Hospice of Nelson County, St. Joseph Bereavement and the Jason Ellis Family Fund.
