St. Gregory deacon dies in Saturday motorcycle crash in Missouri

Monday, June 24, 2013, 4 p.m. — Joe Wiechert, 55, of Cox’s Creek, died Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 70 near Warrenton, Mo.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Alyssa Crawford, 19, of St. Charles, Mo., was headed west on I-70 when she lost control of her car, crossed the median and overturned, striking Wiechert’s motorcycle heading east. Wiechert was pronounced dead at the scene. Crawford suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West in East St. Louis, Mo.
Wiechert was ordained a deacon Aug. 21, 2010, and served at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Samuels.
He was born February 14, 1958, in Hempstead, N.Y. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a deacon and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Stan and Ellen Wiechert.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Wiechert of Cox’s Creek; two sons, Seth Huddleston of Cox’s Creek and Ryan Huddleston of Bardstown; two brothers, Stan Wiechert of Kansas and Bob Wiechert of California; one sister, Ann Funk of Florida; and three grandchildren, Leah Huddleston, Luke Huddleston and Logan Huddleston.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at St. Gregory Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Archbishop Joseph Kurtz will officiate and the Rev. Paul Eve will concelebrate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at St. Gregory Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Gregory Catholic Church.
