Domino’s Pizza robbery suspect arrested by Bardstown Police

Tuesday, June 25, 2013 — Brian S. Downs, 35, was arrested Monday night, June 24, 2013, and charged with the June 16 armed robbery of the Domino’s Pizza store, 701 N. Third St. The Nelson County Gazette was the first local media to report the story (click here for the Gazette’s story).
During the initial robbery, Downs allegedly brandished a small black handgun. During the robbery store employee’s described the robber as a white male in his early 30s, 5-10 tall. One of the store employees stated they recognized the robber but did not know his name. Bardstown Police Detective Chris Smith developed the suspect and the robber was identified positively by a store employee.
Downs was arrested on an active arrest warrant for escape, second-degree issued by Jefferson District Court for failing to return to a work release facility. Upon his arrest, Downs admitted he robbed the Domino’s Pizza store and that he threw the weapon — a toy gun — away. He offered police no reason for the robbery.
According to the Nelson County Jail logs, Downs was arrested and booked into the jail at 11:45 Monday night on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree escape.
The investigation is ongoing.
