LMPD dive team finds nothing in pond near site of Officer Jason Ellis’ murder

STAFF REPORT

ksp600Thursday, June 27, 2013, 5:30 p.m. (Updated 6:30 p.m.) — Louisville media are reporting this evening that a Louisville Metro Police Department dive team today searched a pond near the Blue Grass Parkway ramp where Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis was murdered early in the morning of May 25.

The pond the dive team searched was located a couple hundred yards away off KY55, behind Glasscock Log & Lumber at 2870 Springfield Road.

According to a report posted on WLKY.com, state police called in a dive team after a K-9 brought to the scene this morning indicated something could be in the pond.

WDRB.com reported at 6 p.m. the dive team’s search turned up nothing in the pond.

“Based on the information we received … leads we developed through our own investigation led us back out to the area,” KSP Trooper Norm Chaffins told the TV station.

Chaffins said the dogs were from an outside agency, but he would not identify the group.

“Some expertise that they had that we haven’t utilized yet, so their canines were taken out to the scene this morning. They were utilized there. They led us to an area around the pond around where Officer Ellis was murdered and we have the Louisville dive team searching the area of the pond,” Chaffins told WLKY.

There’s no word on what divers are looking for or whether they’ve found anything relevant yet.
