Bro. Jimmy Duke, 78, of Balltown, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Norton Health Care in Louisville.

He was born in Breckinridge County on Nov. 9, 1934, and was the son of the late Vol and Janie Mae Smith Duke. He was the pastor of Calvary Temple Church of Jesus Christ in Hardinsburg and enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Phillips and Jean Brink-Pixler; four brothers: Haybert Duke, Frank Duke, Eugene Duke and Maurice Jr. Duke; and three grandchildren, Randall Duke, Daniel Duke and Lori Duke.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Burden Duke of Balltown; four daughters, Connie Oaks (Wayne) of Palm Bay, Fla., Vonna McCarty (Charles) of Balltown, Twanda Carman (Bruce) of Merritt Island, Fla., and Kaelynn Brown (Scott) of Cloverport; four sons, Rickey Duke (Donna) and Roger Duke, both of Cloverport, Tony Duke (Theresa) of Scottsville, and Jamie Duke(Jennifer) of Dukes; four sisters, Maxine Fuqua of Hardinsburg, Vina Wimpy of Louisville, Margaret Taylor of Lewisport, and Lois Ray of Cloverport; one brother, Dale Duke of Cloverport;
12 grandchildren, Michael Oaks, Timothy Duke, Jennifer Nottingham, Tina Spense, Paul Duke, Jason Duke, Jonathan McCarty, Talon Brown, Tracy Duke, Cynthia Etienne, Katie Brown and Hailey Duke; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg with Bro. Charlie Lawson and Bro. Arlie Brock officiating. Burial was in the Duke Cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made to the Jimmy Duke Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home to assist with expenses.

The Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg was in charge of arrangements.
