ROBERT ‘BOB’ HAYDEN NETHERLAND

Robert “Bob” Hayden Netherland, 51, of Bardstown,  died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Portsmouth, Va., born on December 26, 1961 to the late Charles Edwin “C.E.” and Margaret Lewis McCubbin Netherland.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Campbellsville University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from WKU and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. He was a social worker for many years working for private organizations and state agencies. He was a former employee of Wal-Mart working in the meat/dairy department. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, and worked with Special Olympics of Kentucky for 26 years. He was the Pentathlon Director and a former Deacon at Tatesbrook Church in Lexington.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathy Lynn Hardin Netherland; two daughters, Holly Alyssa Netherland and Samantha Grace Netherland both of Bardstown; one sister, Carla Netherland (Richard) Hodges of Laurinburg, N.C.; one brother, Jan (Jill Barranton) Netherland of Panama City, Fla.; and two nieces, Michelle Hodges (Steve) Linthicum, and Melanie (Matt) Hodges Mason.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Parkway Baptist Church with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery. Pastor James Carroll will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Parkway Baptist Church.

The family has requested that contributions be made to Special Olympics of Kentucky, Humane Society of Nelson County, Hospice of Nelson County, Nelson County Relay for Life and American Cancer Society.

Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown is in charge of arrangements.
