JOSEPH ‘ART’ NEWTON SR.

Joseph A. “Art” Newton Sr., 83, of Bardstown, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his home. He was born June 24, 1930, in Manton. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Kentucky Wine and Spirits. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 121 and a member of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Gean Newton; his parents, Hobert and Annie Newton; and five brothers, L.H. Newton, Charles Newton, Jim Newton, Melvin Newton, and Ruben Newton.

He is survived by three daughters, Sheila A. Lyvers of Bardstown, Charlotte (David) King of Blytheville, Ark., and Debbie (Jimmy) Lyvers of Bardstown; two sons, Joseph A. (Peggy) Newton Jr. of Sonora, and Dean W. (Eva) Newton of Bardstown; three sisters, Barbara Lydan and Georgie Grims both of Louisville, and Rosemary Koch of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery. The Rev. Coleman Howlett will officiate.

Visitation is 5–9 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
