Bardstown Fire Dept. fights woods fire in knobs region off KY 245
Sunday, April 3, 2011, 3:55 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department was called to the area of 1856 Lutheran Church Road for a report of heavy smoke in the area.
3:59 p.m. — Second caller reports heavy smoke at the end of Lutheran Church Road; responding firefighter reports seeing a heavy column of smoke apparently from the wooded knob region at the end of the Lutheran Church.
4:09 p.m. — Firefighters are attempting to locate the fire. Heavy smoke is also being reported on Barnes Road located south of the same knob. Firefighters are checking to see if they can access the fire from Wheeler or Barnes Road. Nelson County Dispatch is advising the Kentucky Division of Forestry of the situation.
4:13 p.m. — Firefighters report locating off Barnes Road; a caller to Nelson County Dispatch from the 1300 block of Wheeler Road reports the fire is on a trail behind their house and heading toward their home.
4:34 p.m. — Firefighters believe 3 to 4 acres or more involved in the fire. Homeowners have offered tractors to assist fight the fire.
4:46 p.m. — The fire appears to be moving toward the Lutheran Church Road area. Firefighters will redeploy in that area.
4:56 p.m. — A Division of Forestry rep. is on scene, estimate now 5 to 10 acres involved. A bulldozer is available to assist fight the fire.
5:30 p.m. — A caller to Nelson County Dispatch who lives in the 1300 block of Lutheran Church Road reports seeing flames on the north side of the knob.
7:55 p.m. — Firefighters have called for additional manpower from the Boston Fire Department, the Mount Washington and Southeast Bullitt Fire Departments. Louisville media representatives were also reportedly on scene about 7:15 p.m.
8:28 p.m. — Firefighters located at the end of Lutheran Church Road report the fire is advancing down the hill toward the general area where homes are located. Southeast Bullitt is on scene trying to create a fire line.
April 4, 2011, 12:33 a.m. — Firefighters leave the scene, and advise dispatch that there’s still piles of brush smoldering and smoking.
