Joseph Theodore ‘Ted’ Ballard, 85, formally of Bardstown
Joseph Theodore “Ted” Ballard, 85, formally of Bardstown, died Wednesday July 17, 2013, at Fullerton Gardens, Fullerton, Calif. after a prolonged illness.
Born to Otho and Pearl Ballard on May 2, 1928, he was sixth of eleven children. He attended Highview Grade School and Fredericktown High School. During World War II, he worked for different companies in Louisville and at the shipyards in Tacoma, Wash. while living with his brother, Felix. He later returned to Kentucky and got a job at American Standard with his uncle Pike Taylor. After returning to work on his father’s farm for a few years, he joined the Army and spent most of his time in Korea. For a few years, he worked at the GE in Louisville, then moved in 1964 to Anaheim, Calif. and owned and operated AAA Plumbing Company for about 25 years. He married his first wife Mary Logan in 1949. After she died in 1977, in 1993 he married Nadine Duncan and lived in Yorba Linda, Calif. His recreational interest was focused on raising and training bird dogs. There were numerous trophies on his walls for his remarkable skills in this field. He also had a Model T car and attended car club outings. Though he did not receive a trophy for his mechanical skills, he was known to be able to “fix anything.”
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Barry Evan Ballard.
Survivors include one daughter, Melanie Ballard Nelms of Missoula, Mont.; one son, Jodie Lee Ballard of Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Ruth Schroth of Anaheim, Calif., and Sr. Mary Otho Ballard, OP of St. Catherine; one brother, James Reuben Ballard of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Tracie Ballard Dunwoody, and Amy Ballard Porterfield; two great-grandchildren, Ava Dunwoody and Lance Dunwoody.;
A graveside service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home.
