STAFF REPORT
Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, 5 p.m. — A 26-year-old Bardstown man was arrested Tuesday morning after the resident whose apartment he was burglarizing returned home and caught him in the act.
At 10:14 a.m., Nelson County Dispatch received a 911 call from an individual in the 300 block of North Third Street who heard someone yell “Call 911.” Officer Tony Satterly of the Bardstown Police Department arrived at 303 N. Third St. and found the apartment resident struggling with Thomas F. Hawkins, 26, of Bardstown. Apparently the resident returned to his home Tuesday morning and found Hawkins inside. The resident was not injured in the altercation with Hawkins.
Hawkins was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary. While en route to the jail, Hawkins experienced a medical issue, and Officer Satterly took the man to Flaget Memorial Hospital where he was admitted for observation.
Police believe Hawkins had accessed a safe and removed prescription narcotics, a laptop computer, cell phones, digital camera, and $2.58 in change. The gloves Hawkins was wearing were recovered at the scene. All the items were recovered.
Police ask anyone with information about this crime to call the Bardstown Police Department, (502) 348-6811.
