Preston Coomes, 87, Bardstown

Preston Coomes, 87, of Bardstown, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Life Care Centers of Bardstown. He was a native of Nelson County born on July 1, 1926, to Augustine and Mamie Snellen Coomes. He was a retired employee of South Central Bell, a member of Pioneer Retired Employees and of the Baptist faith.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hodge Coomes and his sister, Hazel Bowman.

He is survived by two sons, Donnie (Brenda) Coomes and Steve Coomes both of Bardstown;

five sisters, Mildred (Hansford) Milligan of Louisville, Dorothy Meyer, Helen Shain, Barbara (Austin) Weller, Glenda (Allan Ray) McGruder all of Cox’s Creek and one brother, Elwood Coomes of Cox’s Creek; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in New Salem Cemetery. Pastor Jonathan Gann will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
