James O’Connell Gilkey, 90, Louisville

James O’Connell Gilkey, 90, of Louisville, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013. He was a native of Nelson County and was a retired district manager for South Central Bell Telephone. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and wwIIveteranlogoserved his country during World War II in the Marines.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gilkey; his parents, Raymond and Annabell Gilkey, one daughter-in-law, Helen Gilkey; and two grandchildren, Joanna and Daniel.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Greer (William) and Susan Clark; two sons, James O. Gilkey, Jr., and Greg Gilkey (Pam); 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
