Obituary: Mary Isabelle Phillips Phelps, 102, Magnolia, formerly of Nelsonville
Mary Isabelle Phillips Phelps, 102, of Magnolia, formerly of Nelsonville, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at her home. She was born Sept. 20, 1910 in Long Run. She was the daughter of the late Frank McGee and Mary Lee Ross Phillips. She lived in the Boston area for 54 years before moving to Magnolia to live next to her son, Herbie.
She was a member of the Rolling Fork Baptist Church in Lyons Station. She was a homemaker who loved quilting, doing it until the day she passed away. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who deeply loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Barrett Anderson Phelps; two sons, Barrett Anderson Phelps Jr. and William Edward Phelps; two sisters, Paralee Phillips and Lillie Pearl Bryant; and two brothers, Billy Phillips and Hardy Lee Phillips.
She is survived by her son, Herbie (Gale) Phelps of Magnolia; two daughters, Tressa (Donald) Bullard of Pelham, Ga., and Dale (Jr. Junie) Vittitow of Boston; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, in the chapel of the William R. Rust Funeral Home, 167 North Main St., New Haven, with her grandson, the Rev. Kenny Phelps, officiating. Burial is in the Rolling fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Lyons Station.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the funeral home.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home, 167 North Main St., New Haven, is in charge of the arrangements.
