Bardstown man charged with bilking elderly victim out of $25,000

Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, 8:55 p.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested after a police investigation determined he had collected multiple times from a customer he knew was suffering from Alzheimer’s Syndrome.
William Scott Bartley, 30, was charged with knowingly abuse/neglect of an adult by a person, and theft by deception, include cold checks under $10,000.
The facts of the case surfaced after a Bardstown Police theft investigation of an October 2011 where a victim paid Bartley to seal his driveway. Investigators determined that Bartley was aware his customer’s age and suffered from Alzheimer’s. Barley contacted the victim and claimed he hadn’t received payment for the work. After consulting with the victim’s family, police believe Bartley duped the victim out of $25,000.
