Police: Grand jury to hear case of Emerald Court shooting death

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, 11:30 a.m. — No charges have been filed in the shooting 
death Wednesday evening of Randy Arnold, 24, of Bardstown at a home in the 100 block of Emerald Court west of Bardstown off Hubbards Lane.
Police believe that Vernon J. Arnold, Randy Arnold’s father-in-law, shot him in self-defense at the home. Randy Arnold was declared dead at the scene. The case will be presented to a Nelson County grand jury to determine if Vernon Arnold should face charges in the shooting death.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Nelson County EMS were dispatched to a reported shooting on Emerald Court at about 8:11 Wednesday night. The victim allegedly had been shot in the neck by a shotgun. Nelson County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Nelson County Coroner investigated the incident.
