Obituary: Dorothy ‘Dolly’ Patricia Sympson Greenwell, 84, Cox’s Creek
Dorothy “Dolly” Patricia Sympson Greenwell, 84, of Cox’s Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. She was born April 19, 1929, in Medford, Mass. She was a Jefferson State Nursing School graduate, a former employee of Green Meadows Health Care Facility and retired from Barton’s Distillery after 11 years of service. She will be remembered locally in her retirement years as the creator of “Golly B’Dolly” products ranging from children’s clothing to personalized handmade quilts. She was also a member of St. Gregory Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Greenwell, Sr.; and her parents, Elred and Johanna Faucette Sympson.
Survivors include four daughters, Dina Haming of Louisville, Linda Lehman, Karen Hauschild and Heather Cawood; one son, John R. Greenwell of Cox’s Creek; one sister, Barbara Sympson Darcy of California; two brothers, Robert Sympson and Kenneth Sympson, both of New York; and several grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at St. Gregory Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, with a prayer service Monday evening at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy and Girl Scouts of America organization.
