Obituary: Mary Benita ‘Bonnie’ Newton, 64, Lexington
Mary Benita “Bonnie” Newton, 64, of Lexington, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at her family homestead in Bardstown. She was born March 30, 1949, in Louisville and was a retired teacher for University of Kentucky. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Newton; her parents, Harold and Benita Dickerson Filiatreau; one brother, Lenny Filiatreau; one nephew, Eric Gutierres; and one great-niece, Brittany Bartley.
She is survived by five sisters, Cathy (David) Kerr of Elizabethtown, Pat (Kelvin) Gutierres, Mary Jo (Rick) Meyer, Sheila (David) McDonald, and Renee Hopper, all of Bardstown; two brothers, Bob (Lisa) Filiatreau and Roger (Melissa) Filiatreau, both of Bardstown; 16 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3–8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, and 9–10:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is Wednesday evening.
Memorial contributions may go to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
