Overturned FedEx truck closes both lanes of US150, Springfield Road

Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, 1:55 p.m. — Police are en route to US150 Springfield Road near Bardstown Auto Wreckers for a report of a FedEx truck that is overturned on its side. A Bardstown police officer on scene reports the highway is blocked.

3 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department is on scene of the overturned FedEx truck to contain a possible hazmat spill. Firefighters declare a Level 1 Hazmat incident. A Level 1 Hazmat spill involves between 10 and 50 gallons of petroleum products. Firefighters are also researching offloading containers of sodium hydroxide, also known as lye and caustic soda. Sodium hydroxide is a strong base, and is often used as a cleaning agent.
