One person dead in Sunday morning collision on KY 55 near Bloomfield

Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, 12:56 a.m. — One person was killed early Sunday morning in an apparent two-vehicle head-on collision just before 1 a.m. on KY55 near the Blue Grass Parkway interchange. Nelson County EMS initially responded to the crash being reported at the exit, but the vehicles were found between the BG interchange and the KY55/US62 intersection. Initial reports indicated three possible patients. When firefighters arrived, they determined one of the injured was dead and one of the injured was trapped in the vehicle.
At about 1:10 a.m., responders requested the county coroner respond to the accident site. KY 55 was closed while emergency crews worked the accident.
A 23-year-old man described as a passenger in one of the vehicles was airlifted by medical helicopter from the accident complaining of abdominal pain and chest pain. He was taken to University of Louisville Hospital. The second patient, described as an individuals in their 40s, was taken by Nelson County EMS to the same hospital.
The Northeast Nelson Fire Department responded to help get the victims from one of the vehicles.
The roadway was open to traffic at 2:50 a.m.
