Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, 10 p.m. – It was a good night for Republicans in statewide races in largely Democratic Nelson County, with Tea Party favorite Rand Paul carrying Nelson County over Democrat Jack Conway with 54.24 percent of the vote (7706 votes to 6502).
U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie won in a landslide in the county over his Democratic challenger Ed Marksberry of Owensboro, winning re-election easily with 62.43 percent of the vote.
County voters also overwhelming chose state Rep. David Floyd over his Democratic challenger Eddie O’Daniel of Bloomfield. Flody won 62.99 percent of the vote in a landslide win to keep his 50th District seat.
STATE RESULTS. Elsewhere in Kentucky, 3rd District U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth held off Republican Todd Lally in a race that was surprisingly competitive. Yarmuth won with 55 percent of the vote.
The real surprise was in Kentucky’s 6th District, where 600 votes separated incumbent U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler and his Republican opponent Andy Barr. Chandler claimed victory about 10:30 Tuesday night. Barr refused to concede, calling the race “too close to call.”
In mayoral races, Democrat Greg Fischer won in a tight race against Republican Hal Heiner to be Louisville’s next mayor. In Lexington, vice mayor Jim Gray squeaked out a win over incumbent mayor Jim Newberry.
