Bardstown woman arrested Tuesday on child abandonment charges

Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, 3:45 p.m. — A Bardstown woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after she allegedly left her 4-year-old child unattended outside her home.

Bardstown Police were called to respond to a report of an abandoned child in the area of 918 West Broadway. Police arrived to find the child unattended and could not find the child’s mother. After unsuccessfully locating the mother, the child was taken into protective custody. At 4:10 Tuesday afternoon, police were informed that the child’s mother, Aquita L. Claxton, 26, had returned home. Officers met with personnel from the Child Protection Branch of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services at the home, and Claxton was arrested for abandonment of a child and lodged in the Nelson County Jail. A second child was also taken into custody after officials obtained a court order to do so.
