Northeast Nelson Fire called for active CO alarm in Fairfield
Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, 10:45 a.m. — The Northeast Nelson Fire Department responded at 9:25 Thursday evening to a report of an active carbon monoxide alarm at a home on Church Street in Fairfield.
Firefighters’ detection equipment confirmed the presence of substantial amounts of CO in the home. Fire crews used their ventilation equipment to remove CO from the home and advised the homeowner to contact their gas company for service.
Northeast Nelson firefighters note that smoke detectors and CO detectors save lives, but only if they are equipped with good batteries. With the cooler fall weather comes the need to bring heating systems back online for the fall and winter, and firefighters say it is a good time to check the operation of the detectors in the home.
