Firefighters called after police spot fire on Corman railroad trestle
Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, 11:20 a.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department responded Saturday morning at 6 a.m. to a fire on the R.J. Corman railroad trestle that passes over Old Bloomfield Pike. Bardstown Officer Andrew Riley reported he smelled something burning in the area of Mockingbird Lane and North Second Street at about 5:30 a.m. From his police cruiser he later spotted the fire on the trestle on the railroad tracks a couple hundred feet east of North Second Street. Riley walked down to the fire and requested a response by the Bardstown Fire Department. The wooden beam appeared to have been burning for some time. On their arrival, firefighters extinguished the fire and stayed on scene for about 20 minutes.
