Driver injured Monday afternoon in rollover crash on BG Parkway
Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, 6:20 p.m. — The driver of a truck hauling a trailer was injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of the Blue Grass Parkway. The accident was reported at about 4:48 p.m.
The victim was first helped by drivers who stopped to offer assistance, an eyewitness reported. Two man and a young man stayed with the driver offering aid and comfort. Others helped extinguished a fire in the engine compartment before first responders arrived.
The Bardstown Fire Department and Nelson County EMS responded to the scene, where the victim was reportedly trapped in the truck with his legs pinned under the dashboard. The truck was on its side, and firefighters spent about 20 minutes cutting away parts of the truck to get the victim out of the vehicle.
The 27-year-old driver was flown from the crash scene directly to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment of his injuries, which included possible leg fractures. First-responders were on the scene for about an hour.
