Driver injured after deer enters vehicle in BG rollover collision
Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, 12:10 p.m. — One person was injured Friday evening in a high-speed collision with a deer at the 21 mile marker in the eastbound lanes of the Blue Grass Parkway.
The Bardstown Fire Department, Kentucky State Police and the sheriff’s office responded to the crash scene at about 7 p.m. Friday.
The deer entered the passenger compartment after it was struck, and the vehicle left the parkway and rolled over, coming to rest at an angle against a rock wall. The driver was trapped in the vehicle by the deer carcass until firefighters arrived on scene to help him out of the vehicle.
EMS transported the driver, a 50-year-old male, to the Nelson County Fairgrounds where a medical helicopter was waiting. The victim was flown to University Hospital with facial injuries, head trauma and a hand injury. First-responders were on scene for about an hour.
