Obituary: Lillian Ruth Burns, 91, Chaplin
Lillian Ruth Burns, 91, of Chaplin, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. She was the former Ruth Shields and was born May 15, 1922, and was a native of Washington County. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the W.M.U.
She was the daughter of the late Mitt and Alma Sparrow Shields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Burns; one son, Travis Burns; and 2 brothers, William “Popper” Shields and Manson “Bud” Shields.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Bowman of Chaplin; one son, Roger (Judy) Burns of Chaplin; one sister, Shirley Hardin of Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Janet Burns of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at the Chaplin Baptist Church with Bro. Heath Woolman and Bro. Earl Hazel officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery at Chaplin.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at the Chaplin Baptist Church.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Chaplin Baptist Church Building Fund.
The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
